Since an AC outlet is often not available at every location in the store, it places a limit on where these units can be placed. With POE, this problem is eliminated! In order to meet the 802.3af POE specification, the unit must consume under 13 watts of power. The main engine for the POE Touch Computer is the Neon270 board that features a PXA270 processor running with speeds up to 624MHz and 128MB of memory. With this horsepower, the Touch Computer has the ability to display full-motion video up to 800x600 resolutions. Because of the efficiency of the design, this unit is very cost-competitive yet provides a multitude of connectivity options. The Touch Computer can easily interface with a barcode scanner to create a PoE price verification unit. Standalone price verification is a growing trend in the retail market.
When the price verification application is in stand-by mode, advertisements can be streamed to the unit to essentially pay for itself. It is a digital sign and price verification device all in one. The touch screen support allows for user-interaction, which can be used to trigger the price verification application, or have customers enter data manually.
