The Argon board is ideal for security and access control applications due to its small form factor and ability to interface with a variety of input devices. It has on-board connectivity for a 1-D or 2-D barcode scanner and two serial ports that can be used to interface with a magnetic stripe or RFID reader. The 2-D scanner can also be used in a dual-role as a 0.3 megapixel grayscale camera because it is an imager at heart.
The Argon is powered by the versatile Marvell PXA-270 processor with speeds up to 624MHz. This processor supports video playback resolutions of 800x600. The Argon directly interfaces with a 3.5" display with touch screen support, which allows for user-interaction. With an on-board reed relay, the Argon possesses dry contact functionality which allows for the control of a door strike or turnstile. We have incorporated the Argon board into an enclosure for use as a door access control unit for luxury suites at entertainment and sports venues (see: Argon Suite Scanner).
